Just Along the Way

The trains here are great…but expensive.  The train from Manchester to London is anywhere from $120 to $200 depending on whether you go “non-peak” or “peak”.  You have to pay more here for everything if it is “peak” – during the busiest hours.  The trip by train is about 2 hours from Manchester, 4 hours by car.  I looked out the window and saw this old structure on the hill.  I looked at maps but couldn’t figure out what it was.  One day Bill and I drove to Stoke-on-Trent on business and we drove by this hill again.  We drove to the top – I wish I had taken pictures of this awesome and very old town on the way up the hill.  Almost all streets were enough for one car and all cobblestones.  We get to the top and then have to walk some more to get to this old ruin.  I can’t say that even after researching it that I fully understand it.

What you see in the picture (above the post with Bill in it) is a partial building on a hill.  That is what it was built to be.  Evidently the Lord of the area used it as a BBQ pit after his hunts and also as a retreat.  I can’t determine how expansive it used to be but it was never a castle or large walled structure.  This particular area is where the Methodist church started and to this day they still hold some church meetings on this hill from time to time.  It was definitely cool.  What you can’t see is at the top there is a circular room with a grilled pit.
