Beeston Castle

When I arrived I didn’t want to get so caught up in work that I couldn’t see the sites while I was here and forced myself to go to a castle nearby on my first weekend.  I love castles and old churches.  I found a random castle not that far – remember I had only been driving on the wrong side of the road for a couple of days.  I could never have made it without my GPS or SatNav as the English call it.

The castle itself was an outpost – being in the northwest of England they built it to be an outpost to protect from the Welch and Scots.  It was destroyed during the civil war – between royalists and parliamentarians.  There are some cool stone structures that are still standing after several hundred years overlooking a outcrop.

What I didn’t realize is how many people go to these sites and picnic.  I went on a beautiful summers day and as you can see there were lots of families out enjoying the grounds.  It was breathtaking to take it all in.  I am fascinated by castles.  In other life I must have been a castle stone.  :)
