Alderly Edge

There is a small town just south of Bramhall where I lived called Alderly Edge.  The locals like the say that a lot of “footballers” live there.  The only thing I can compare the actual village to is Palo Alto, CA.  It is very quaint with small shops and cool pubs along the main street with old buildings.  The houses in the area are enormous but, as in many locations, hard to see because of the hedgerows in front for privacy.

“The edge” as the area is called is a national trust area which are designated historical areas that are protected.  It is a unique geographic location that allows the viewer to see over the countryside.  There are enormous trees in the area and then you reach this outcrop of rock that contains a lot of iron ore from which you can see the beautiful country.

I took my camera with me, I like to keep it in the car for moments like this, but when I tried to take a picture I realized I took out the battery to charge it and it was back at the flat.  These pics are from my blackberry.  Perhaps I will have a chance to go back and get some other pictures.

The area has been occupied for over 2,000 years.  There are indications that men were mining ore in the area over 2,500 years ago.  It was used by the Romans for mining when they were in the U.K.  For the last several hundred years it was part of someone’s estate.  I cannot imagine owning this property and getting a chance to walk around these words.

Since taken over by the national trust the site is open to anyone willing to hike a half-mile.  The site also has it share of mystical history.  A group of witches were located on the edge one evening and a picture was taken and published.  The witches found a new location to meet.

Like all historical sites, families and children flock to the area to enjoy the scenery.
